504.8FC - Media Access and Credentials for State Athletic Events

The Board recognizes the importance of media coverage in promoting school activities and informing the community. For state-level athletic events, the District will adhere to all media access rules and credentialing procedures established by the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU).

All requests for media credentials, passes, or access to state athletic events must comply with the guidelines set forth by these governing organizations. The District will not issue independent media credentials for state events outside of these established processes.

Student photographers and student media representatives affiliated with the District are subject to the same credentialing requirements and behavioral expectations as professional media. In addition, student photographers must be active members of the District’s yearbook staff. All student media representatives shall follow and adhere to all rules, regulations, and media expectations established by the IHSAA and IGHSAU.  Students must be properly approved, registered, and/or credentialed in accordance with IHSAA and IGHSAU policies and must operate under the supervision of a District staff member or advisor when applicable.

The Superintendent or the Superintendent’s designee is responsible for overseeing the implementation of this policy. This includes:

 

• Ensuring district compliance with IHSAA and IGHSAU media regulations
• Coordinating communication with media representatives and student participants, as appropriate
• Serving as the primary point of contact for questions regarding media access

All media representatives, including student photographers, are expected to conduct themselves professionally and in accordance with event rules, district expectations, and applicable association guidelines.

Failure to adhere to established media policies may result in denial or revocation of media access.
